The price of progress. United Prairie has been a leader in precision agriculture for 20 years, therefore we have used a lot of equipment through the years as technology changed. Up top is our Fujitsu field computer that ran our first DOS based mapping program Fieldlink. Cost new, around $6k in the 1990's. Below that are some of the first Ruggedized computers we ever used for VRT fertilizer application. On the bottom we have 3 Linx computers. Developed by Don O'Neil from Bloomington, IL, these babies were trick at the time. With the integrated mouse/keypad they were nice and compact in the cab of a machine. These were one of the first computers that were used as a yield monitor that mapped on the go. I believe Don was bought out by #johndeere and they shelved the product. I think these still run Windows 95 or 98. Price then at the turn of the century about $6000 each. They were used in conjunction with a New Leader Mark III or a MidTech controller with a data override box that you had to switch on or off (in the box to the left). On the right are 4 Agrem computers made in Colfax, IL. these were purchased in the early to mid 2000's. By then computers were getting a little cheaper, I think these were about 4K each. All of these computers were used to variable rate single products in our machines. Twin Bin technology, along with the Raven Viper controller became the equipment of choice. Currently all of our dry fertilizer is applied with Twin Bin airflow machines controlled with Viper Pros or Viper 4's with wireless modems in the cab. All of this is going to the electronics recycler very soon. Original value of it all $40,000, Current value, $0. If you want any of it to play with or put in your museum, speak now. We may keep one each of the field computers for nostalgia's sake and put them in our mini-museum of outdated Precision Ag equipment.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Winter Meeting today. We had a GREAT turnout and enjoyed putting on this program. We are very proud to serve you!
